Stunning work. I didn’t expect Mount Fuji to not really be the focus of these, though. It seems like the people of the time viewed it as something of a distant god, huh? Always there in the background, but never directly implicated in people’s lives.
Thank you for this lovely post. The paintings are all interesting but I love the folding screen by Kanō Naonobu the most. I went to an exhibition at the British Museum showing the Katsushika Hokusai views of Mount Fuji, which of course are very well known. They were wonderful but it is good to see other artists.

I think distant god is a good description. It's a key feature, but a background one, it seems.
